Product description

Corinne Bailey Rae's new album, The Sea was co-produced by Bailey Rae with Steve Brown, and Steve Chrisanthou, who produced many of the songs on her debut album, which has sold four million copies worldwide. Bringing together a new band of musicians, Bailey Rae recorded the album mainly in Leeds and Manchester, England. Her voice, always an expressive and soulful instrument, resonates with a poignant and newfound depth on The Sea. Loss and grief are recurring themes yet a sense of beauty and wonder ultimately radiates from the album's dark corners.

Customer reviews

« Stunning and soothing »
At the first listen, I felt oddly let down...But then I started to read the lyrics...and now I'm addicted. I have listened to this album almost everyday for the past few weeks. Beautiful, haunting, varied, and substantial. A must-listen.

« Talented songstress belts them out »
The new album from Corinne Bailey Rae is filled with the kind of evocative longing that only someone who has lost a beloved one can deliver. Her songs are at once sad and happy, if that is possible, and the entire CD is filled with listenable tracks. I love it!

« Jus didn't like it. »
Found it to be boring and typical...sounded like an album full of "unreleased rarites." Although I empathize wit her loss, I hope she doesn't continue on the path of mourning for her next project. I don't mind it being "dark", but the are many albums/songs with even darker subject matter (take Clapton's "Tears In Heaven" for example) that are classic.

« You can hear the sadness »
This CD was produced after the death of her husband. You can hear the sadness and longing in her voice. This was a healing process for the artist. It is a beautiful CD in the fact that the emotions are real and on the surface.

« SOOOO disappointed! »
Man! I waited and waited for her to release a new CD, and I have to say I completely agree with what the other 1 and 2 star raters have said. Where is the sparkle??? I also have the issue with being unable to understand her words often and the volume changes. I can barely hear her voice at times....like there was a big production problem. When I play one of these songs after one off her 1st CD, it's like someone is muffling the sound. I'm so glad I didn't buy this but listened to a copy from our local library first. Let's hope third time is a charm with her next CD.
