« Yes it is different... »
The time this album was recorded was a very turbulant one for ST. Basically a whole album of material similar to the first album was scrapped and new material was written. This was influenced by the change in the musical climate. The band got divided naturally into two different writing camps and the results are admittedly uneven at worst. At best there are some pretty strong tracks like "Kill The Pain", "Just Fade Away" and "Twenty Something". Still, in some ways it is a better album than "Doin' The Nasty". "Nasty" only really had TWO quality tracks, "Helluva Time" and "White Lies", the rest being very weak compared to what other bands had to offer at the time. Slik always had too many fingers in the pie, just read all the credits of the first album with multiple producers, engineers, mixers etc. The result of this was strong material like "White Lies, Black Truth" ultimately ended up sounding like a "nu country" track rather than the hard rock song that the original demo was.

Considering all this we were very lucky to achieve what we did.

« Not what they started with. »
Till recently I didn't even know that Slik Toxik had a 2nd album. I managed to scrape up a copy of this on cassette since it was way cheaper than the CD version and both are completely out of print. If you own or have heard their debut "Doin' The Nasty" then you may be let down by this album. To me it sounds like they kinda tried to cash in on the grunge that was popular at the time (1994). It is quite a bit heavier than their debut, but I feel it doesn't fit with Nick Walsh's vocals as good as the blues/hair band sound of their debut did. I hate to say it but that is also what probably killed this band. They broke up shortly after this release. At any rate, it wasn't a horrible album, but I would try to get the debut "Doin' The Nasty" instead of "Irrelevant", especially if you like your hair bands Skid Rowish. This really doesn't sound much like their first album, heavier but not quite right.
